Here in Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks the #historyofbikepacking is relatively short. Although Ray Molina did invent the fat bike here in the mid 90s!
The future of bikepacking however looks bright. @monumental_loop is drawing in visitors and, more importantly, exciting locals to interact with public lands in a new, sustainable way. I’ve had the pleasure of leading more than a dozen first time packers out from town to the surrounding national monument and each time I’m the one learning the most and leaving the trip inspired by their toughness and ingenuity. One of these riders has truly transformed herself from a wobbly, tentative rider, to a badass who without hesitation jumps at the opportunity to ride hard and sleep outside (which she did for the first time last summer). So while I’d love a new @revelatedesigns kit for my other other bike, @roguerubio is much more deserving. I have no doubt that she’d put it to its most beneficial use.
On this day in 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt laid the cornerstone of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. Nearly 80 years later, we visit this monument every year on our student trips to D.C. How cool! #nowaktours#wewilltakeyouthere
